3 September 2007, Vijayakumar wrote in response to specific questions from Henning as follows:

>1. Since Miss Armstrong died the NAWA committee appointed me as the person in-charge of the entire administration of NAWA.  But the designation "Project Manager" is given by Christian Children's Fund (CCF) is  a child sponsorship agency based in U.S. a field office in Bangaore with NAWA works CCF for many years and I am the person responsible for this programme in NAWA.  Now my role is to supervise and guide all the programmes as a representative of NAWA Management.

2.  Mr. Thangavelu, who has vast experience working in Tea estates in the Nilgiris, is the Farm Manager at the Paniya Colony.  He takes care of all the farming activities.  As before the lands are divided into two parts (a)  Individual plots – allotted to the Paniyas with existing tea plantations.  Each family owns ½ an acre to 1 acre of tea.  Some families maintain their tea well and some, as usual, neglect them.    Around 30 acres of land with tea are taken care by the Paniya families (b)   Common land – Around 35 acres of tea plantation is maintained by employing young Paniya men and women.  The income from this land goes towards maintenance labour by the Paniyas and for some common programmes.

The Dispensary is managed by a part time Medical Officer and two full time Nursing assistants.  We get a maintenance grant from Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Govt. of India.

The crèche is also functioning well now.  Apart from the children at the Paniya colony other tribal children in the area are also attending the crèche.

One of us from Kotagiri visit the Farm once a month and we get weekly statements of work done, financial position etc. through a messenger.

3.  Mr. Kuriyan is still alive but he is not active as he was before.  He is quite old but his general health seems to be good.

4.  Most of the Senior members of the Paniya colony are dead now.   Chundan, Veran, Moopan, Kayama, Kavilan, Vella, Chunda and Chedayan have died.  Urali, C. Veluthan, Bojan, Karuppan, Kuliyan are still there.  Of course Urali is very old now but the others are in good health.

Nunjan is still active and works at the Farm.  His father is Bojan.  Is that right? Most of the younger generation people like Nunjan, Guliyan, Mookaran, C. Polan, Kongilan are all still active.
