My first thought as this movie opened was - what are they going to do for a real believable old cowboy when Robert Duval quits making movies. [I've also had that thought about Sam Elliott] I love westerns and there hasn't really been a good one for some time. But this one filled the need. My one complaint would be the movie moves slowly at times and seems to be stretched out longer than it needs to be. But it's a good story and you never really felt bored at any time. Costner was good, and Annette Benning's charm is hard to beat. I never thought of her in a western role but why not. We liked it. It's a little too violent for small kids and there is language. I suggest seeing it on the big screen for the scenes, [filmed west of Calgary] and I'd hate to sit that long in front of the TV.

Storyline from Yahoo: Following the day-to-day encounters of four cattle herders who roam the countryside without owning a particular piece of land, or "freegrazers" (Costner, Duvall, Luna, Benrubi), living in the final years of the Wild West, this film tells the story of how they eventually team up to rid a burgeoning remote town, Harmonville, from the machinations of a ruthlessly evil rancher, Baxter (Gambon), who forms a sort of "outlaw state" where he makes the laws and rules, and enforces them using scare tactics and brute force.
