The reason is critics tend to view movies differently than users, and this movie is just a lot of fun. Sure there are things that aren't quite right, and maybe the plot isn't that deep, but the movie is fun. A classic good versus evil, with the girl getting kidnapped and the lover going after her. Excellent special effects. I didn't much care for Johnny Depp before this movie, but he was just the right touch of humour. I could recommend this for everyone in the family but some scenes are just too scary. There's no coarse language of nudity, but there is violence.
