Here's a movie that I really don't what to make of. I liked it and I didn't like it and I can't explain that other than to say that's how I felt about it. Sometimes I find Nicholas Cage irritating and to some degree I think that's my dislike of this movie. What I liked was the multiple stories in it and with out giving anything away I liked the ending. We were interrupted during this movie and I had to return it with out watching the end. Had it not been for a friend who told us that there was a great twist in the end, I doubt I would have rented it again to watch the rest. But we did and I'm glad. That should tell you something. Roger Ebert was a little more enamoured with it. "The screenplay for "Matchstick Men" is an achievement of Oscar caliber -- so absorbing that whenever it cuts away from "the plot," there is another, better plot to cut to." I wouldn't call it Oscar caliber, but we can recommend it.
