Mike gave this movie 8/10 and Roger Ebert gave it 4 of 5 stars. Ebert said "It's like a film that escaped from the imagination directly onto the screen, without having to pass through reality along the way." We liked the movie but found it a little slow and over the top at times. It will probably appeal a lot more to those who are familiar with the comic story. I found the script amateurish at times. Also comic action doesn't always translate well into computer generated special effects. In some scenes Sky Captain flies through formations so tight, there really isn't room for a plane. But hey, it's comic book and so our hero can't do anything wrong. I really liked the character of Dex, and to some degree, think he had as much to do with saving the day as Sky Captain. But it certainly is worth renting. PS: Totenkopf translates to Deadhead. Just thought that was interesting.
