Chicago Sun-Times, Roger Ebert says: "...a spellbinding story of opposed passions..." This is a personal up close look at the Queen in her private and public life. We find that she is an ordinary person in many ways, while balancing that with her role as the Queen of England. The fact that Helen Mirren looks so much like the real person, makes the movie so much more real. Will the movie win Best Picture at the Academy Awards? Not likely, but Helen Mirren may well win Best Actress. She was just superb. The average age at our viewing of the film was probably 55, which reflects that us old people seem to be more interested in the monarchy. Judy and I are split on the review. While I found the movie good, it was more informative than entertaining. If you don't see it at the theatres now, it's worth a rental when it is released on DVD.

Storyline From Yahoo: A revealing, witty portrait of the British royal family in crisis immediately following the death of Princess Diana. The setting for this fictional account of real events is no less than the private chambers of the Royal Family and the British government in the wake of the sudden death of Princess Diana in August of 1997. In the immediate aftermath of the Princess's passing, the tightly contained, tradition-bound world of the Queen of England clashes with the slick modernity of the country's brand new, image-conscious Prime Minister, Tony Blair. The result is an intimate, yet thematically epic, battle between private and public, responsibility and emotion, custom and action - as a grieving nation waits to see what its leaders will do.
