I first saw this movie on the big screen where it should be seen for full effect, but that was before I got into this review business, so now I'm reviewing it as a video release. This movie says more in facial expressions and eye contact than it does in it's script. Lt. Col. Moore, the author of the book intended that this movie make us hate war, but love the warrior. And it does that in so many ways. If you don't shed a tear or two in this movie, then in my opinion, you must be more stoic than the Spartans. Even if you saw it on the big screen, you should rent the DVD just to watch the special behind the scenes feature, and the deleted scenes. [VHS probably doesn't contain special features] In the feature "Getting it Right", Lt. Col. Moore and other real life people depicted in the movie are interviewed giving you even a greater sense of what the movie is about. The deleted scenes give you some great shots especially some additional scenes of what the wives went through. Watch them with the director's commentary and then watch the actual scene. It's all worth the time and adds to the movie. The last line of the last deleted scene turns out to be so prophetic.
